Game Projects

Overview

Sasquatch is a student MOD Project for the Unreal Tournament 2004 engine. Our team was given 6 months to create a working game to present at the Art Institute of Vancouver's Game Production Workshop showcase. The game follows the player character, Dyami, a lone Sasquatch out in search of his captured sister, Tala.

The intent was to put a comical spin on the stealth genre. Primary game play consists of one level where the player must attemptto keep the suspicion of local campers down while maneuvering around in almost plain sight. With the help of “Critter Characters” the player is able to collect valuable items like energy drinks (For sprinting) and the Disguise (a hat which would cause the player to ‘blend in’ with their human cousins) to aid them in their mission of making it to the other side of Maple Valley campground without being caught by the Park Ranger.

My Job

My role on the team was lead designer. I was in charge of creating and maintaining the Game Design Document as well as working with the appointed team leads and the Producer in seeing that all assets created kept as true to the original vision of the game as possible. My goal as lead designer was to allow everyone a chance to put pieces of their own personalities into the game so it wasn’t just one single person’s idea, but a collaboration of many.

The Three Foot Titans

Our team was the smallest game team out of five in our graduating class. Our ten person team, affectionatly named the Three Foot Titans, consisted of very dedicated and hard working individuals from unique backgrounds and various geographical locations. We tried hard to maintain a fun yet serious working environment where everyone had an equally important part in the development process. For all of us it was valuable learning experience as manyof us had never worked on a game before nor had any prior experience working with the software we were presented with. The learning curve was sharp but thanks to the TFT's great communication and teamwork skills we got through it with a great amount of success.
